These are the Sun Shadow Mandalas my students drew. I mentioned it in my last post, so I thought I'd add a visual aid. We've been reading a short story for the last month or so, and they had to choose metaphors to describe both the positive and the negative sides of the main character's personality (For example: "she is as angry as fire") Then they drew the pictures and wrote adjectives for each. Perhaps most amazing is that the first ones were all drawn by grade seven boys! I'm not saying boys aren't artistic, it's just a struggle to get them to apply themselves.
